CryoSTUCK® – Labels for Frozen Vials and Containers
LabTAG’s innovative CryoSTUCK technology is available in 3 printing formats representing a wide range of options to choose from. Labeling at -80°C and subsequent storage at -196°C means no more room temperature thawing of precious biological samples in order to apply labels. LabTAG is your leader in frozen surface labeling solutions.
- Labels adhere to previously frozen vials (no thawing required)
- Resist extreme cryogenic temperatures (-196°C/-321°F)
- Ideal for over-labeling (blackout and clear options)
- Available for thermal-transfer, direct thermal, DYMO LabelWriter, and desktop laser printers
- Perfect for biobanks, biorepositories, and cryogenic storage facilities
The Challenge of Labeling Frozen Vials
Labeling frozen vials is a significant challenge for many bio-pharma research labs, cell banks, biorepositories and other laboratories involved in the biopreservation and biobanking of samples in liquid nitrogen and ultra-low temperature freezers. Vials containing biological materials cannot be thawed due to the temperature sensitivity of their content. In most cases, the re-labeling of these vials has to be done below -70°C so as not to compromise the viability of the frozen cells. The Solution to Labeling Frozen Vials
To solve this challenge, we developed CryoSTUCK, a unique product line of cryogenic labels and Tapes that can stick to already frozen vials and other containers (as low as -80°C). They can be successfully applied to frozen containers and then stored in liquid nitrogen tanks (-196°C) or -80°C freezers for further preservation. Our CryoSTUCK tapes are available in clear and a range of colors for easy identification and color coding, and can be provided with our unique GatorCUT technology, for a simple hand-tearable solution.
Over-Labeling Legacy Vials
Blackout CryoSTUCK have a unique opaque design, perfect for over labeling legacy vials that cannot be thawed and already have a label applied. These opaque “cover-up” cryo labels are designed to completely obscure existing labels and conceal their obsolete or outdated information. They are ideal for re-labeling frozen vials when removal of the existing label is not possible.
Laminating Existing Labels
Our Clear CryoSTUCK labels can also be used to over-label vials and tubes, as their transparent design will not obscure the underlying label. Ideal for laminating existing labels, these robust labels will provide an extra layer of protection, safeguarding your printed information from chemicals, abrasion, and extreme temperatures.
Affixing of Labels
For optimal adhesion, wipe away any visibly accumulated frost with a clean lint-free disposable wipe (e.g: KimWipe™). Avoid excessive contact with the label adhesive during application. Apply the edge of the label first and press firmly to anchor it. Then press the label securely into position along the vials’ entire circumference. The vials can be stored in liquid nitrogen (-196°C) or ultra-low temperature freezers (-80°C) immediately following label application, requiring no cure time.
Our latest CryoSTUCK labels do not require an overlap to produce a secure adhesion to frozen vials and tubes, and require no cure time before returning them to cryo storage.
Printing CryoSTUCK labels
Thermal-transfer CryoSTUCK labels can be printed using all standard barcode printer brands. We recommend our versatile UC-class labels for most applications. We suggest using our XAR-class ribbon for optimal printout resistance. They also accept writing with permanent markers, such as our cryogenic markers. Blackout and SimPEEL formats are also available.
Our Laser CryoSTUCK labels, which will adhere to already frozen surfaces without the need for an overlap, can be printed using your desktop laser printer (HP, Brother, Samsung), in a variety of color options. We provide free online MS Word templates for quick template setup and easy printing. Now available in transparent and blackout formats.
Direct Thermal CryoSTUCK labels are printable using all common thermal printers, and don’t require a ribbon or other ink sources to print. These thermal labels also provide resistance to routinely used lab chemicals, such as alcohols and xylene. They are also available with our unique SimPEELTM technology, making them even easier to peel and apply.
DYMO-Compatible CryoSTUCK labels are printable using DYMO LabelWriter 450, 450 Turbo, and 4XL printers. These labels for already frozen surfaces also display excellent resistance to laboratory chemicals like alcohols, xylene, and disinfecting solutions. Templates are also available for the DYMO Connect and DYMO label software (Mac & Windows).
Industries Served
These unique cryogenic labels can provide an ideal solution to many laboratories involved in long-term biopreservation of tissue samples such as cord blood banks, cell banks, tissue banks, seed banks, sperm banks and other cryogenic storage facilities in the biomedical and veterinary fields.
