Xylene & Chemical
Resistant Labels
LabTAG® provides xylene-resistant labels, ribbons, and tags for use in clinical and medical research labs, including histology, pathology, and chemistry labs. Our laminate-free chemical-resistant labels are perfect for identifying microscope slides, paraffin wax blocks, plastic containers, volumetric labware, slide boxes stored in deep-freeze conditions, as well as formalin preservation, and resin embedding.
Our chemical-resistant labels withstand direct exposure to and immersion in xylene, toluene, alcohols, such as ethanol and isopropanol, formalin, hexane, acetone, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), acetonitrile (ACN), as well as other harsh chemicals and organic solvents.

Xylene & Chemical Resistant Labels by Surface
Microscope Slides
Our xylene-resistant labels are ideal for labeling glass microscope slides, commonly used in histology. When printed with our solvent-resistant ribbons, the labels are resistant to xylene, toluene, hexanes, alcohols, acetone, and the new generation of safer, non-toxic xylene alternatives/substitutes. These slide labels are particularly resistant to histological stains, such as eosin Y and hematoxylin, and will not acquire colors during staining protocols. These thermal-transfer printable labels are also suitable for use in automated slide processors.
Paraffin Wax Blocks
Durable barcode labels designed to adhere to hard-to-stick surfaces, including hot paraffin wax used for histology applications. Able to withstand a range of temperatures (-55°C/-67°F to +70°C/+158°F), these solvent-resistant labels are suitable for use on recently cooled wax blocks, used to encase tissue cassettes for histological applications. The printout obtained when printing with our xylene-resistant ribbons will resist harsh chemicals and solvents, including xylene, toluene, hexanes, alcohols, acetone, and methyl ethyl ketone (MEK). Perfect for identifying paraffin blocks with barcodes for use with tissue microarrays, including the Galileo TMA CK4600.
Bottles
Solvent and chemical-resistant labels, available with a permanent or removable adhesive, are well suited for glass bottles and beakers used to store harsh solvents, as well as any other container or lab material that will come in contact with abrasive chemicals. Provided in a variety of colors, these thermal-transfer labels are perfectly suited for use in animal facilities, medical and clinical laboratories, veterinary clinics as well as the medical research industry. Ideal for color-coding, as well as high-quality printing of alphanumeric text, 1D and 2D barcodes.
Tube, Vials & Boxes
Chemical-resistant labels for thermal-transfer printers, perfectly suited for laboratory use as well as cryogenic storage applications such as identification of cryo tubes, cryo vials, freezer/cryo boxes, microscope slides, and slide storage boxes. Coated with a strong permanent adhesive ensures the labels conform to small diameter vials and tubes and resist immersion in liquid nitrogen, as well as multiple freeze-thaw cycles. These tube labels withstand spraying and swabbing with alcohol solutions, including ethanol and isopropanol, and exposure to formalin solutions.
Xylene & Chemical Resistant Labels by Printing Method
Thermal-Transfer
Thermal-transfer, xylene-resistant labels are capable of withstanding direct contact with, and immersion in, harsh organic solvents such as xylene, alcohols, formalin, toluene, and acetone. They can be used in a multitude of histological staining processes, from tissue fixation using alcohols, aldehydes, and ketones, to incubation in different alcohol mixtures during dehydration processes. These barcode labels will remain permanently adherent, even when exposed to harsh chemicals and during long-term archival storage after processing.
Dymo Compatible
Dymo-compatible, direct thermal labels can both withstand exposure to harsh chemicals and solvents, as well as long-term storage in cryogenic conditions. These chemical-resistant labels resist immersion (up to 3 min) in alcohols, including ethanol and isopropanol, and exposure to solvents such as xylene. Coated with a unique protective coating, and a strong permanent adhesive, these direct thermal labels can also be immersed in liquid nitrogen directly following application and can withstand multiple freeze-thaw cycles.
Xylene & Chemical Resistant Labels by Feature
Acid & Base-Resistant
These permanent acids and base-proof labels will withstand long-term exposure as well as immersion in concentrated acids, such as Sulfuric acid (H2SO4), and Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), as well as aggressive bases, including Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH). Ideal for the identification of containers used to store highly corrosive reagents used in organic chemistry and forensics, analytical research, and by environmental/agriculture laboratories. These acid-resistant labels can be used for protein work, as well as mass spectrometry, and acid hydrolysis of tissue for non-heme iron assays.
Blackout
Solvent-resistant blackout labels designed for flat surfaces, such as glass microscope slides. These removable cover-up labels conceal any pre-existing information, while their glove-friendly adhesive allows them to be easily removed without leaving behind any residue, or damaging the information underneath. Ideal for re-identifying histology slides marked with unclear, inaccurate or lacking information, these thermal-transfer printable labels will resist harsh chemicals, solvents, and detergents when printed with our xylene-resistant resin ribbons.
