Designed for portability and ease-of-use, the Zebra UF RFID reader is an all-in-one solution for quick and efficient UHF RFID reading and barcode scanning, perfectly suited for inventory management and sample tracking. The high-resolution camera provides fast 1D and 2D barcode scanning while the RFID module efficiently reads hundreds of tags at a time with a read range of up to 20 feet. The included Zebra DataWedge app easily integrates the data captured by the reader, such as the scanned barcode and the RFID, and transmits it in a properly formatted format to your keyboard-wedge enabled inventory systems, LIMS. The Software Development Kits (SDKs) and technical documentation provided by Zebra allow for more advanced integrations with existing RFID systems. The 123RFID Mobile app is also available for proof-of-concepts and demos.

Is the RFID reader easy to assemble?

Yes, assembly of the RFID reader, while not toolless, is reasonably straight forward. A step-by-step guide can be found in the quick start guide available online and inside the RFD-40’s packaging.

Can I read barcodes and RFID tags with this device?

Yes, the mobile computer component is equipped with a high-resolution camera capable of scanning most common 1D and 2D barcodes.

The sled is an extension of the mobile computer specifically meant to read UHF tags.

What is the read range of the device?

The UHF reader has a maximum read range of up to 6 m (20 feet). However, please note that the read range also depends on the size and, thus the signal strength of the RFID label/tag antenna and may therefore differ from the maximum read range of the reader. Environmental factors (such as electromagnetic noise/interference from other devices, metals, etc.) can also affect the maximum read range.

What is the read rate of the device?

The fastest read rate is 1,300 tags/second. However, this rate is affected by environmental factors and may therefore be lower.

How long is the battery life of this device?

The device has a 3800 mAh battery, which can last up to 10 hours of working time, depending on use.

What software is available to use?

The device is equipped with 123RFID Mobile App, a basic application from the manufacturer that allows you to test some essential functions, proof-of-concepts, and demos to read/write individual tags. It also contains DataWedge, the main configuration interface for the input and output of data from RFID tags or Barcodes. To integrate the reader into an already existing software platform, such as an RFID-enabled LIMS, we recommend using the Software Development Kits (SDKs) provided by Zebra.
