XAR-printed labels resist incidental chemical exposure and extended immersion in solvents such as xylene, ethanol, isopropanol, acetone, and others without the need for a protective clear lamination or overlay. XAR-class ink ribbons are made of resin, which provides great resistance to temperature extremes and excellent protection against chemicals and solvents as compared to other types of ink ribbons.
This ink ribbon offer resistance to a variety of harsh chemicals and solvents, such as xylene, toluene, acetone, and alcohols and is especially suitable for histology applications when used with compatible histology labels.

Thermal-transfer ribbons can have the ink coated on either side. Coated-inside or coated-outside refers to the side of the ribbon that the ink sits on.
The quickest way to tell which side is coated is by unwinding the ink ribbon. One side will be shiny and one side has a more matte finish. The duller side is the side with the ink.
