Many tissue banks and cell banks specialize in freezing oocytes, sperm, and embryos for use in in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures. The oocytes, sperm, and embryos are placed in cryogenic straws which subsequently get stored inside liquid nitrogen tanks at -196ºC.
At GA International we have been providing cryogenic straw labels for IVF medical laboratories and veterinary stations for over 10 years. Our StrawTAG™ cryogenic labels have been carefully tested inside liquid nitrogen and approved for 0.25ml and 0.5ml straws of different configurations. These specialty cryo straw labels are designed to withstand long-term preservation inside liquid nitrogen Dewars (liquid and vapor phase) as well as freezers and dry ice transportation. The cryo IVF straw labels withstand the vitrification process which is an ultra-rapid freezing of oocytes and embryos used to avoid the formation of ice crystals. These StrawTAG™ labels are compatible with all standard cryo straws as well as high-security straws such as Kitazato®, and CBS™ vitrification straws.
The adhesive and the facestock material easily conform to the small diameter of the straws and the label adheres strongly and permanently. The information can be printed or handwritten on the white part of the label with the transparent part laminating over and safeguarding the information from any chemical or physical exposure. For convenience, we provide these labels in white and in a number of colors for color coding and easy identification purposes.
Compliances and Certification: Our IVF cryogenic straw labels are compliant with FDA non-direct food contact FDA–21CFR175.105. These labels have very low levels of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) which allow them to be used in IVF clinics worldwide (subject to end-user evaluation).
Printing: Our labels for cryogenic IVF straws can be printed with any common brand and model of thermal-transfer printers such as Zebra, CAB, Citizen, and other printers.
Printing Kits: We provide ready to use cryo straw label printing kits that come equipped with a high-resolution printer, cryogenic straw labels, a resin ribbon, and state of the art software. The software has the capability to connect to Database and Excel sheets and print serialized numbers, barcodes, alphanumeric information and text using true type fonts, stamp-date and a wide range of advanced features and programming. Certain models of cryogenic straw kits also include a barcode scanner.
The labels are resistant to standard ethylene oxide gas sterilization, consisting of a 60-minute exposure to 759mg/L of ethylene oxide gas, at 55oC, and 40-80% relative humidity, followed by a two-hour aeration cycle.
